Recreation of the beautiful city of Bern, Switzerland, in full CGI.

The main goal of the project was to add an intricate, complex personal piece to the portfolio that could highlight different areas of CG world building.

Responsible for all aspects: Modelling (except cars & some tree assets), All Texturing, Lookdev, Lighting, Comp & Grade.

The terrain was created using Houdini's Heightfield tools, with a real 3D scan of the city used to match the terrain elevation. The buildings use modular parts to optimize time while being able to provide lots of variation. The houses were mostly placed by hand, to better match the real life reference.
All the trees were scattered procedurally, where a map based on the houses and road intersection with the terrain dynamically drives their spawn position.

The texturing is mostly procedural, with a couple exemptions such as the bridges. To finalize, the comp was made in Nuke and a couple projected mattes were used to bring more details to the render.
